How to Teach Leadership Skills in the Classroom
TweetAlthough some children are said to be born leaders, I believe leadership is learned throughout our lives and that we should nurture children to be leaders whenever we can. The classroom, in which children have their perceptions shaped constantly, is an excellent context for developing leadership skills. Here are some ways we teach leadership skills at i-Learner:
Allowing students to take leadership roles
Children are assigned different roles, such as ‘teacher’s assistant’ and ‘story-teller’, and are guided to carry out their duties. It is a good chance for children to practise the necessary skill set and learn to be a responsible individual.
Encouraging students to boost their confidence
Children are easily overwhelmed by unsatisfactory academic performance and comparison with their peers. It is not hard to imagine how this feeling discourages them from taking on responsibility and collaborating confidently. Tutors at i-Learner refrain from unnecessary criticism, instead seeking to help children understand and overcome any issues. We strive to build a safe environment full of praise and encouragement, and we see our students grow and unleash their potential.
Motivating students to make decisions
Problem-solving skills are a crucial quality of leaders. We aid students by breaking down challenging projects into small, workable tasks. For instance, if students struggle to write a story, we do a brainstorming activity to gather interesting ideas for the plot. We also create scenarios in which students make choices, such as what games they want to play or who to read aloud texts.
Every child can be a future leader if they are provided with ample opportunities to practise communication, build confidence and make decisions. Sign up for our courses now to see your child shine in a stress-free environment!
