How to Deal with Exam Stress
TweetExams cause some people a great deal of anxiety, which can impact their results significantly. Since we have to deal with exams throughout our school lives, and often beyond, it’s important to take time to develop skills to manage that stress. Below are some tips to help get through your exams and show yourself in the best possible light:
Timetable
Make a clear study plan that fits in all the subjects and topics you need to revise. This will help you see how feasible it is to study for everything and whether you need to prioritise some topics or subjects over others. Don’t forget to make room for breaks, leisure activities and to leave free time for you to be flexible.
Assess Yourself
Make sure to assess yourself every now and again by doing practice papers. This will help you see where your strengths and weaknesses are so you know where to spend your time and efforts. If you do well, it’s a great boost for your confidence. If you don’t do as well as you’d like, take a step back and learn from this – make time and space to revise the topics you struggled with.
Exercise
Go for a run or play some sports. Get your head out of the books and into doing something physical. Exercise is a proven stress buster. Something as simple as a 20-minute walk can clear your mind and help you destress.
Sleep Well
Getting sufficient rest will help you process and absorb the things that you’ve learnt. Make sure you get a solid 7-9 hours of sleep without distractions.
Get Help
If you find yourself struggling with a topic, speak to your classmates, tutors or school teachers to make sure you get the help you need. They can help explain things to you in different ways that will help you understand.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, speak to your parents, a friend, teacher or other appropriate adult. Speaking about your situation can help release some of the stress, and you may find that there are things others can do to help.
